Hey, everybody. It’s been a crazy Fall for me. I feel like I’ve been dead to the Internet for a while. Lots of cool stuff has been going on though.

Business has been good and I finally got through the most intense design period in my life. And it’s about to pick up again.
My sister got married last weekend and we had one hell of a(n expensive) party.
I’ve been teaching Intro to Typography and Graphic Design History at my design alma mater.
I’ve been prepping for my upcoming trip to Costa Rica, assembling gear and timetables, purchasing transportation, and the like. Very psyched.

Teaching has been an interesting experience so far and I’m thinking of applying for an open assistant professor position for next year. Jumping into Tyler’s class midway through the semester is a bit jarring and I think if I had the class from the beginning it might have gone smoother. Here are some observations so far.

Almost to a student, these kids don’t care about history. They don’t perceive it as relevant and don’t understand that all events in history are connected to the present. Not just in design but in everything. One student didn’t know what the Vietnam War was.
4 out of 5 students in this particular class lack ambition almost entirely.
The same 4 out of 5 seem to lack talent as well.
There are a lot of bad attitudes about putting in the hours to produce good work. Many of these kids just expect to be handed a good grade. I assume they also expect to be given a job they enjoy. They won’t get either.
